Powerbelts and Triple 7 paying off..
My son shot a 8 point buck this past Saturday using the 245 grain Powerbelts. The bullet entered about three inches back from his shoulder and three inches from his spine and went downward and was under the hide on the opposite hind quarter. The entrance wound was about two inches wide. The bullet flattened out to about the size of a nickel and all stayed together. He was shooting from about thirty yards high and was using 100 grains of Triple 7. We are well pleased with the results.
Just thought that I would post for your information...

Not much information there Cynray

There are three Powerbelt types in 245 grain... ie...

copper aerotip

hollow-point lead

hollow-point copper

Which Powerbelt?

Loose powder or pellets?

Congrats on your son's harvest. I'm sure you're a proud Papa!

I used the 245 grain copper jacketed hollow point the last two years pushed by 100 grains of Clean Shot powder. Very accurate load which produces 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards.

Shot a deer each year with it. Both hits were just behind the foreleg broadside shots. Neither bullet exited. Neither wound left a good blood trail. Both deer died and were recovered ... but I don't like the lack of blod trail.

Going to try a different bullet this year.

For whatever it's worth, I use the 295 gr. Copper plated PowerBelt HP in front of 100 gr. Pyrodex. Heavier bullet exits. Have yet to recover one from a deer. Exit holes about the size a 35 cent piece, (half way between a quarter and a half dollar.) However, all my hits were behind the shoulder, and didn't hit bone. I have no idea what would happen on a shoulder shot.

Try a heavier Power Belt - the 245 is a little on the light side..... Particularly if your deer are BIG ones!

(Personally, I think we use up way too mcu energy worrying about expansion when we are shooting bullets of .50 caliber or larger. A bullet this size doesn't really need to expand at all, particulary if it has a big flat nose section! If you're shooting such a bullet, penetration is more important. As a matter of fact, if a big slow bullet really expands a lot, it will stop inside the animal, and entrance wounds are notorious for plugging up/sealing up, giving little if any blood trail. Exit wound generally let out more blood than entrance wounds.

I shot two deer last year with 295gr Power Belt Copper HPs over 90gr Pyrodex (three 30gr pellets, the Nirvana load in my lil' Wolverine). One deer was around 35-40 yards broadside and the other one was a 100 yards brisket shot. Both had large exit wounds, i.e, PENETRATION. Gotta love those heavy Powerbelts .
