Loading BP shotshells and 12ga fowler
I have a Rem 1889 that I load using BP. I put powder, overpowder wad, 3/4 greased felt wad, just the plastic cup off wad (cut the compression part away and use wad regualted for same oz load) the over shot card. Works very well and patterns nicely.

I was condering on my Pedersoli double fowler if I tried the same thing using a plastic wad cup if that would help the pattern?

Has anyone experimented using plastic wad cups?

Cheers,

You might want to check Cow Boy Shosting areas as most of them that shoot black powder cartridge shotgun shells uses plastic wad cups and plasatic cases.

juse keep in mind that plastic shotshells dont last very many reloads when shooting BP.

I your question is if plastic shot cup work in a ML? It seems like they should, but no personal experience here. They will probably leave more melted plastic in the bore then when using smokeless poweder... my ML procedure is pouwder, over powder card, wad, shot, over shot card. all the components are orderd from dixie.

My muzzleloader is an old twist barrel 12 guage. I have not had success with plastic wads in it. For a while, I used old paper sixteen guage shell bodies heavily waxed for a shotcup, but sadly they are all gone and I'm too cheap to pay collector price. I'm just starting to try dime coin wrappers. Not sure how they will work.
My bore is quite old, and rough as a Pennsylvania back road, so what works in it may have nothing in common with with a newer, smoother barrel.

edit: By the way that plastic is really hard to get out of a rough barrel that you can only get at from one end.
