drm-hpRifle Question
Hello All,
I have a question about the rifle on the upper right on the banner page of the Buffalo Arms website.
http://www.buffaloarms.com/Who is the manufacturer of this rifle? It looks as though it is a Falling Block style action. The forend hanger is what has me stumped.
Thanks, Doug

Carolina ManDoug,
The rifle is a Sharps-Borchardt Model 1878. Not a falling block. The lever pulled the bolt to the rear. Not sure what you are refering too as a barrel hanger. The barrel key is just decoration.

drm-hpAaron,
The Brass wedge retainer, what you refer to as a barrel key is what was puzzling me. Actually as you pointed out I was very puzzled.
Thank you, Doug
Borchardts are indeed, falling block actions with internal firing pin/striker. That is the reason the block is long, to have room for the firing pin and spring mechanism, but it drops vertically.

Idaho SharpshooterSome of us old fogies consider that key the means of attaching the forearm to the barrel underlug.
The rifle block is most precisely termed an internal striker falling block.
