Gentlemen,

Quote:

First off, consider that I have never seen a happy .45-120 owner. Too much recoil. . .

I hate to burst anyone's bubble here, but I guess MAYBE you haven't looked too hard to find a happy owner of a .45-120. I've got a Pedersoli "Quigley" in .45-120 with a 34" barrel, and I absolutely love the gun!! As to the recoil, I guess it's all relevant, but I have to tell you tough boys that my 10 year old shoots this gun with fullhouse loads (115g Fg & 500g bullets) all day long and doesn't whine at all, he loves it as well!!

I've shot BPCR's in .45-70 and .45-110 and to me at least, there isn't a whole lot of difference in the amount of felt recoil between them and the .45-120.

I guess if I'd have read the "horror stories and old wives tails" before buying my .45-120, I would have been frightened away as well. But instead I took the chance that unless one has ACTUALLY experienced something first hand, it is simply armchair quarterbacking and that's about all that it's worth!!

I say if you think you want a .45-120, then by all means get it, they are an absolute blast to shoot, and the WOW factor of the gun and cartridge at the range is really fun as well, ESPECIALLY when you have a smallish 10 year old that can shoot it comfortably. Dont let the armchair quarterbacking naysayers dissuade you, go for it!!

If however, you want to just buy of the shelf facotory ammo and shoot light weight bullets, then maybe the .45-70 is a better way to go. Having said that, whatever you do, get what YOU want, don't let someone else talk you out of it. After all, it's your hard earned money, spend it as you want.
