I HAVE AN 1851 COLT NAVY MADE BY NAVY ARMS THAT IS ABOUT 25 TO 30 YEARS OLD. .36 CAL. I WAS WONDERING ABOUT GETTING A KIRST OR R&D CONVERSION. THEY ARE OFFERED FOR PIETA AND UBERTI MODELS BUT NAVY ARMS MUST BE DEFUNCT OR HAVE BEEN TAKEN OVER BY SOMEONE ELSE. CAN ANY ONE COMMENT? WHICH OF THE CURRENTLY MANUFACTURED COMPANIES WOULD BE CLOSEST TO THE NAVY ARMS CLONES? THANKS IN ADVANCE TOM

Remember, that '51 Navies have a .375 bore. The conversions are generally for 38 Spec (.358) cart. That will give you a .017" OVERSIZED bore.

The only way to not have your bullet tumble, is to shoot hollow base wadcutters, or load a heeled bullet (.375) into a 38 Long Colt case.

Been there done all of the above.

Not to mention if it's a brass frame, that sucker might well shoot loose in no time, especially if subjected to smokeless loads.
