SST's again
I got some SST's in .50 cal. 300 gr. black sabot. They will not fir in my .50 omega. Anyone else have this problem? They are too large to get in the barrel. Mislabeling maybe? Thanks

Should fit. Should be same diameter as the 250 grain SST. Are you sure you didn't grab 54 Cal. by mistake?

I ordered them from Lock Stock and Barrel. I emailed them, they said to use bore butter. They say 50 cal on them. I will mike them when I get back home.

Something else you may want to try is using a different wadcup. Check out harvester's web site below. You will find they are thinner and make loading easier. All the people I know who are using these with SST's are claiming better accuracy. I will be trying them myself.

The first thing my Encore owners manual says is:"If you are using sabots in your muzzleloading rifle,Do Not lubricate the sabots with any additional lubricants."

I would let the good folks at Lock Stock and Barrel know that the advice they are giving is not good advice and they should be held accountable if something out of the ordinary happens.

I didn't read the manual but it made no sense to me. I will get to work on them when I get home. Gun is home in Mi and I am in NM. I get to go home and relaod and shoot for 12 days over the holidays. Thanks

With no industry standards for muzzleloader barrels they vary quite a bit, not only from different manufactures but in some cases from gun to gun. That being said Omegas are know to have a fairly tight specs. on their barrels.

Generally heavier bullets are harder to load because of their longer bearing surface. Try contacting these guys http://www.mmpsabots.com/ they can set you up with a sabot with thinner pedals and that should help you out.

There is one other option: look at bullet diameters, and if you are shooting handgun bullets, buy the ones that are .451" as opposed to .452". That one thousandth of an inch can make all the difference in the world, if you happen to get a tight barrel.

You might also try a silicone lubricant on the sabot, if nothing else works. The silicone won't hurt the way the sabot engraves, but it will make it a LOT easier to load the projectile.

Hehe, another prime example for having the muzzle relief bored.
