Powder measure?
Howdy All...

i would like to know, if it is safe to use my RCBS powdermeasure for blackpowder... (it is the one that follows, when purchesing a master reloading kit)

now i am tired of weighting the powder the slow way, but some say it is safe to use the RCBS... some say it is not safe...

if it is not safe, which measure should i get instead?

Lyman makes a BP thrower that has a long drop tube attached. It is made of suitable materials. I like mine. It also has a large capacity reservoir.

Lots of baloney out there about what is safe and what isn't. It appears that steel may be OK, but I don't believe definitive testing has been done, so do be safe.

Blackpowder is NOT safe in a RCBS type powder measure. However if you intend to use Hodgdon Triple7 or Pyrodex black powder substitute, check out this link:

The cheapie LEE http://www.leeprecision.com/cgi/catalog/browse.cgi?1137...catalog/powhan2.html should be safe. Pretty much nylon and plastic in contact with the powder. Don't see how you could get static or a spark.

There is no problem with using smokeless in a made-for-BP measure, that I am aware of.

Outside of materials, the Lyman is the same design as their regular model.

Recently, there have been many experiments done with static electricity. All of these have been notably failures at trying to get BP to ignite by the static electricity as produced in the experiment. However, not one of them that I have seen was done under controlled laboratory conditons, with adequate measurement, record keeping, and I am uncertain whether or not the experiment would be repeatable.
