Non toxic shot for ML
Any advice for what type of non toxic shot for use in muzzleloaders? Thanks.

Tanker;

You might want to try Bismuth shot as it's soft and will not hurt the barrels of older shotguns. It's rather expensive, but I am unaware of anything else that is suitable. Ballistic Products used to carry it. I haven't checked lately to see if they still do.

I was thinking of Hevi Shot but I may call the makers of my guns and see what they say.

Hevi shot requires a specific shot wad and overshot card. BPI carries most of what is needed to load for modern reloading and may be adaptable to muzzleloader, but I have no idea. Rather dangerous in older guns I would think.

Last time I checked Hevi shot was about $150 for 7lbs. I would opt for Bismuth its cheaper than Hevi shot and won't hurt your gun.

What about Tungsten Matrix?

Hevi-shot, Federal's Heavyweight, Remington's Wingmaster High Density & Winchester's High Density all have tungsten in the shot. Special wads are required to prevent scoring the bore.

Bismuth is softer but will need to be buffered with poly granules. Bismuth has a tendency to crumble and the poly grains help prevent this from happening.

It is my understanding from posts on other forums that Bi is no longer available.

True?

Bore scoring and other damage is what I want to avoid. Is there anything that is soft enough not to need a shot cup?

Gold, silver, or platinum ought to be soft enough Wink
