After nearly 25 years of shooting, I will start shooting with muzzleloaders.
I got this nearly new .36, Uberti/Navy Arms marked, Remington 1858 Navy, proofed 1969.

I bought a box of Hornady .375" balls and wonder wads. And I have two boxes of different primers.
I ordered two boxes of BP-pellets. I don´t have a permit for black powder propelant, but this pellets are ammo here in Germany.
I´m very excited and can not wait, to test my new toy.
My next "idea" is, I hope my wife don´t read this here, to buy a Lyman "Trade" rifle. The Lyman #57 "peep" sight, I bought this week....

Good job; they are a lot of fun to shoot. And you don't have any brass to reload when you are done.
A tip; forget the wonder wads or any other wad. Use Crisco on top of the balls. It is much cheaper and will lube the bore and fouling better. Make sure the balls fit tightly in the chambers.

WOW! A permit for black powder. Makes me thankful I live in Alaska. Carry, shoot, own, hunt with, etc… anything, anywhere, anytime, no permit required. Concealed carry, machine gun, etc., no state permit at all. And, few or no taxes.
Good luck and one of my bucket list items is to shoot muzzle loaders someday.

Here we have many regulations. Last Thursday, I registrateted this black powder revolver. It´s a very dangerous
weapon of mass destruction.....
BP and NC is here declared as an explosiv material. So you need a "§27" permit of the explosive law. The permit is valid for 5 years and is depending on the authority, for example, limited to 10kg total purchase amount. Each extension will cost around 100 euros. Germany....
We must live with this. And so I have ordered this BP-pellets.

At the first shot, I'm scared to be honest ...
Thought, now he is gone ....
Come straight from the shooting range. Have made 24 shots. The first three were too high, then it got better. But he probably pulls a little to the left. But must also only get along with the sights and the trigger. But on the whole, it was an experience. Can only recommend.

Now it's off to clean it. Hope I get through this without "losses".

At least dies and brass are not required, but you need balls, you got to have BALLS....

I have the same pistol in .44, great shooter.
Buy that Lyman "Trade" rifle. I have been shooting one for 30 years. I'm shooting in a black powder rifle match at the club today with mine.
I do have the Great Planes Hunter but the trade rifle is more balance in the hand. mine is .54 and only let me down due to needing to replace the ram rod after years of hard use.

I also have the same revolver but in .44, but I did one thing a little different...

I used to live within easy driving distance of Navy Arms, so I went and paid them a visit.. and bought a replacement cylinder...

the New cylinder was not fitted, so I had a friend trim the face of the cylinder on his lathe, with a strong admonition to not "clean it up" after doing so..

I remembered reading something long before that stated that
the open chamber mouths should be left so share as to draw blood of the press your thumb against them...

The thing is when you press the ball into the cylinder on top of the powder charge the mouth of the chamber should shave a ring of material off of the ball....

This makes sure the ball is correctly sized for proper sealing.
