There are a few MLs that shoot the "best bullets" OK... but not great! There is no exact science to a ML bore. A barrel that's only (1) serial number off from yours might not like any of the bullets your rifle likes. These are not centerfires. There are no strict bore diameter standards governing MLs.

Now getting back to what I've read from Optima owners... the Hornady XTPs in 240 and 300 grain shoot nicely in most Optimas along with Hornady SST//T/C Shockwaves in 250-300 grain. If you desire to shoot a leaded sabot/bullet.... the site hyperlinked below are the "best" ones. However, many Optimas don't like the 40/50 cal bullets so stick to the 44 or 45/50 bulllets from 240-340 grains. The best ones are the QTs and Dead Centers.

got one last year, man what a shooter!I use Powerbelt 50 cal bullets in 295 gr aero tip..
http://www.powerbeltbullets.com/
go to that link has great info. talk about fast to load and very minimal barrel fouling. I can shoot ten times using pyrodex pellets and powerbelts before I have to clean. With the powerbelts you do NOT have to reduce the 50 cal gun to 45 cal bullets. Check em out.
