tundrarulesSabot bullet weight for Whitetails
I would like your opinions on the best bullet weight for Whitetails. I have an in-line .50 cal Knight Wolverine.
Should I go with .45 or .44 cal bullets? How about weight? I am shooting .45/250gr Hornady XTP's but getting awful accuracy so I need to pick out a new combo. I am leaning toward a lighter bullet with flatter/faster results. What is the lowest I should go?
Thanks for everyone's input. Your comment are respected and appreciated.

700 nitroif the twist is 1-28 try the hornady 300 grn xtp mag most of the sabot muzzel loads shoot the slightly heavyer bullet better
i helped sight in 6 or 7 knight muzzel loaders and they all liked the heavyer pills more
i shoot a tc enocore and i get 1 hole groups at 100 yards with 3 triple seven pellets and the 300 grn hornady xtp mag and winchester 209 shot gun primer.
i had the omega and it used the same load equaly well
my encore also likes the 300 grn barns expander and some of the 400 grain mmp sabot loads and hawk bullet loads.

700 nitroalso the .45 caliber bullets 9 times out of ten will shoot better remember the 45 is closer to bore size there is less to go wrong in side the barrel platic flexes easyer than lead

Swede44magI shoot a 54 cal Knight Predator. I use a Honady 44cal 240gr XTP. My father has a 50 cal Knight Predator we use the same bullet weight with good accuracy. I shoot at a paper plate at 100 yards from a bench rest and will get 3" or less groups with open sights. You did not specify what powder charge you were using. I have tried the recommended charge of 100grs RS Pyrodex and it blows my group. Try dropping down to 80grs and work up. I have killed all of my deer with 80grs and none of them have gone more than 20ft. BTW 80grs will put the 240gr XTP all the way through on a side shot with excellent expansion. Hope this helps and good hunting.

tundrarulesI shot 100gr and dropped to 80gr Clearshot. This didn't help at all. I am getting 2.5 in. group at 50yds with 80g/.45,240g,xtp. Got to try heavier bullet I guess.

Swede44magI haven't personally shot Clean Shot but I have heard from different people that it wasn't consistent for pressure. If this is true have you tried a different brand of Black Powder substitute? If the sabot's are leaving residue (melted plastic in the bore) that may be the cause of inaccuracy. Try taking the breech plug out like you would to clean it but before you put it back together look down the barrel at a light you should be able to see if any plastic is left in the barrel. I have had this happen to my Knight Predator. My Predator is almost impossible to get a sabot bullet down the barrel if I dont run a lubed patch down the barrel first. Guns are finicky but that is part of the fun figuring out what works for yours. Good luck and keep trying you will figure it out I know these guns are capable of better accuracy.

700 nitroclean shot is a poor excuse of a powder and is very inconsistant
try swiss black powder if you can get it its much cleaner than goex and 20% hotter as well.

OmegaHornady SST or TC Shockwave. Hornady makes both of them, they are new on the market this year with a very untraditional pointed bullet ML shape.

Flatland Hunter700, out of those 6-7 Knights what did you find to be a consistently good load across the board for them? The 300 Mag XTP? I have a new Knight Mag DISC (I do mean new) that I am searching for a load for. Just picked up some .44 300 XTP's and some .45 300 Mag XTP's will try both to see what will shoot best. I will try both Hornady and Knight sabots with them.

Swede44magFlatland Hunter I don't know what the velocity is in your rifle with these loads but I shot a deer with a 8 454 Raging Bull using 240 Hornady 45cal XTP-Mag about 1650fps. The doe was about 50ft away standing broad side and the bullet went through the lungs with no expansion. Since then I have switched to the 250gr Hornady 45cal XTP with the same speed. I have used them in my Knight Predator with excellent results. When I have time I am going to try the 300gr XTP Mag. Congrats on the new Disk rifle let me know your results for accuracy and expansion.
