Pyrodex RS for 45/70?
Has anyone substituted 45/70 loads with Pryodex RS?

I tried it. Just use your volumetric measure and use the same volume as black. I didn't see much advantage, and the case fouling may be even worse.

It seems to work OK if you use a lot more compression than you would with real powder. I've been shooting them out of a Handi Rifle just to use up the Pyrodex. I don't use them in my good rifles, because of the fouling being so corrosive. Be careful not to breathe too much of the smoke either, it's none too healthy. You must clean your cases like you would with BP, I like to use a rotary wet tumbler to get them sparkling. Once I'm out of Pyro I'll not get any more unless I really have to!

Sure; but as stated, cleaning cases is important as pyrodex is much more corrosive than BP, and what I have is weaker as well. You can leave BP fired brass un cleaned for a year and it doesn't hurt it. I use straight vinegar poured into the brass and it fizzes out all the gunk. The original 1874 Sharps instructions say to use vinegar, BTW.
