I bought one of these rifles in 30-'06 last year, mainly because I like the way they look. I had planned to take it to Africa, but at the range, I kept getting missfires. The primer told the story -- it was just barely dimpled, whether the round fired or not.

So I sent it to Mossberg. When I got it back, (no explanation enclosed) I loaded up a bunch of ammo and headed to the range. Same exact result!

By now, our Africa trip was upon us, so we went without it. I finally got around to sending it back to Mossberg and this time got back a new rifle (again with no explanation as to what was wrong). I took it to the range last week and was very happy with the one and two hundred yard groups, but I got one missfire. I tried the round again and it fired on the second go round.

Anybody have any ideas what's causing these missfires?

Misfires in a single shot aren't good news, on a gun to take to Africa it could be fatal. I always thought Mossberg hade good customer service, at least I had not heard anything bad about them.

Maybe with all the problems the different boards were reporting is the reason behind Mossie dropping the rifle from production?

I have had one in 06 for about 1 yr. now and have not had any problems out of it, thank goodness. The thing I want to know is where can I get extra barrels for it, Mossberg charges too much for them.

I have never seenopne in person, despite being a real single-shot nut! I have looked for them at a number of shops and gun shows. I think the problem with them is they just never caught on. They do appear to be somewhat ponderous and heavy, so that may be a factor. (They're NOT A NO.1!!)

If things don't sell well, they don't last long, as the "bean-counters" run every industry these days!!

Try Wal Mart sporting goods dept. Ask for special order book and look for the Mossbergs in there. They were there last year and about $165 for a new barrel I think.
