Dressing up the #1 in 9.3
I had John Valichek of Canyon Lake, Texas restock my Ruger #1S in 9.3x74R in an excellent piece of Claro walnut and was very happy with the results! Added a shadowline cheekpiece but kept the Alex Henry-style fore end. Will make a cool stalking rifle with the addition of a Zeiss 3x9!

Now bring on the .450-.400! May have to add an ebony fore end tip and a pancake style cheekpiece on it!

Nice rifle Bwanamrm.
How about a Schmidt&Bender steel tubed straight 4x36?

Very, very nice rifle. What a wonderful piece of wood! When the wood was a blank did you think it was going to be so beautiful?

Very pretty. Is the barrel long enough for good handling? I keep thinking it ought be at least 26 inches long...

Thanks guys... I had a good idea it was a well-figured piece of wood but it turned out even better than expected!

Adam, the S&B 4x would be a perfect scope for the .400 Jeffrey!

nordrseta, I agree... the 26" barrel would have been perfect for this rifle. Oh well, can't have it all I guess.

You guys are killing me!! I have been trying to get my hands on a 9.3 X 74R for weeks now. All my contacts say some are coming, but WHEN I keep asking. Anybody have a source for one of these? Two really great looking examples posted here. At this point even a really "plain Jane" one would suffice.

Well, mine's a re-barrelled 30-06, but that's a different story..... Wink

Larry,
Call Don at Don's Firearms in Victoria, Texas @ 361-572-9866. He had one on his shelf on Saturday...

Thanks bwanamrm - It just so happens I got a call from my dealer in Albuquerque yesterday that he will have one in house today. I will be leaving in less than a hour to drive the 75 miles involved to pick it up. I already have the dies, cases and bullets, even some initial loads worked up. If all goes well should be able to fire a few "break in" rounds this weekend. By the way, that is one good looking creation you have!!! Thanks again and I'll post some additional "pet load" questions in a few days.
