Encore barrel weight
Hey fellas, can anyone tell me the weight difference between a factory 24" Encore barrel (standard taper) and a factory 26" heavy barrel? I'd really like a 24" stainless 25-06, but the 26" heavy barrel is much more available.

TC's website might be able to provide barrel weights. Otherwise, I would be gusssing and I wouldn't feel good about that.

I thought that too Cliff, but I couldn't find any specific information. Doesn't mean it's not there, just that I couldn't find it!

Having shot Encores with both types of barrels, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in weight/balance between the two if I shot them blindfolded. I don't know exactly what the weight difference is though.

I would, however, take the time and get the barrel you want rather than settle for second choice. My first choice in Encores is, by the way, the heavy barrels.

Can't tell you the weights but the longer and/or heavier the barrel the better an Encore handles. Have a look at the 28 inch Prohunter barrels before you decide.

I have converted over to ProHunters but I did keep a couple 24" barrels for the mountain stuff. Not sure on the weight difference but on a week long sheep hunt it is significant. I really like how compact the Encore is with the 24" barrel on it for throwing on a pack and heading into sheep country.

The following are the dimensions/weight for my Encore 25/06 with a heavy 26 inch barrel, composite thumbhole stock, sling and Leupold 3-9X scope:

1. Total length 40.25 inches.
2. Weight on bathroom scales about 8.5 lbs.

There is over a pound difference between the 24" barrel and the 28" Pro Hunter barrel...I suspect the 26" heavy barrel weighs in about the same as the Pro Hunter barrel.
