saw a Ruger #1 in 450 Nitro
...at the Allentown PA gun show this past weekend. Barrel was still stamped 45/70. I handled it, did not think it would be fun to shoot, I think it would back you out from under your hat when you touched it off. Definitely needed some more weight. I think the person wanted $900 for it. The seller also had a Butch Searcy double in 470 Nitro for sale...

I have one in 458WM. (Faster twist than the 45-70.) I've heard of them in .460Weatherby too (rechambered).

Sounds like FUN! But 9 bills is too much for a rechamber job that was not done by a gunsmith (would have been remarked).

I have a friend up in Alaska with a No. 1 in .500 NE. Very nice weapon. From what he tells me, it is not all that bad on the shoulder either.
