Is anyone using the .309 JDJ in a contender carbine with a 18 - 20" barrel?? What are the results?

You'll gain about 300 fps over the velocities from the 14" pistol barrels. I know there are a few folks that have had them built, and I considered one for awhile, but never got around to it.

That's about like having a 36" 5 1/2 Lb single shot .300 Savage or .308 Win. I'd use it for moose with the right shot and certainly elk and caribou as well out a couple hundred yards with a 180 gr Nosler Part. The more I look at it the more versatile it appears....recoil aside.

I have a 22 inch stainless 308 Bellm barrel, it shoots about 55 fps faster with the same bullets as my 18.5 inch barrelled 308 does. You might eek out another 50-75 fps with a 309 JDJ. Worth the effort in my opinion.

I received a response from Mike at OTT and he says he can use an old Savage take-off barrel I have in 30-06 to make me a barrel for my G2 in .308x444. It should come out to 20-21" finished length, which should be just fine. He estimates 12 weeks delivery, but I don't have a price yet. Given a reasonable price, I'm going to have it done.

Question....I think I read somewhere (or I dreamed it) that I can use .308 Winchester sizing dies to form .308x444 brass and then also use it to neck size the fired cases....does that sound right?? Also, I'm guessing that using .308 Bellm loading data bumped down 10% should be a good place to start with this round. Any thoughts??
