hstDavidson/ Fraser Scope
Gentlemens:
I am looking for information on the Davidson scope often seen on Fraser side lever rifles. The eyepiece of the scope was a large, bulbous affair that telescoped into the main scope tube during recoil.
I need to fabricate a replacement "bulb" for such a scope and am searching for some detailed information. Size, material(s) and such. Any help, advice, good pictures would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help, and Merry Christmas to all.

HuviusNot certain, but I am thinking I have seen eyepiece pads covered in leather - judging by the look of the cracks in the leather which I have only seen in black. I would think they would be stuffed with something like wool. That may have been on a Rigby though.
Others look like some sort of red or pink rubber. Maybe a softer material of the type used in a Silvers pad.
Wouldn't be too difficult to make a replica out of colored latex or silicone once the correct design is known.

HuviusThe Spring 2005 issue of the Double Gun Journal has some very good photos of a Fraser double with an original Davidson scope.
Definitely a stitched leather cover. Looks like a light reddish leather with a black polish.
I bet it is a stitched tube of leather with a flange on the front which acts as a washer so an internal ring can be threaded onto the scope to hold it in place, sandwiched between the inner ring and the knurled ring which is visible on the forward side of the pad.
