oldunScope on No 1
Last week I took delivery of a secondhand Redfield Widefield 1.75-5x20 scope, it's one with the "tv screen" ocular lense, in very good condition
As a scope for the RSI No 1 in 7x57 for woods stalking it's about ideal.
Previously there had been a Leupold 1-4x in Ruger rings sitting atop the little rifle. Now the Redfield in Leupy low rings is better.
The Redfield, which is an inch and a half longer than the Leupold, overcomes the forward located rings problem. The Redfields' clarity is, to my eye, every bit as good as the Leupy, the windage adjustments are superior.
If you come across a Redfield 1.75-5x give it some consideration, you might just find it is good for a No 1 deer rifle, especialy if like me, you have been blessed with a short neck.

GimpyJust got a #1. Mounted an older Vari-X II and had the eye relief problems at the higher powers. 3 power is ok for hunting. Have a Redfield just like yours, with which I've replaced the Leupold. It's indeed solved my eye relief problem.

How much eye relief does the Redfield have (min-max) I have a 4x compact Leupold in extended rings on my #1 and I still have to crane forward a little to get the best eye relief.

I have had one of these scopes in 2-7 power and for years it rode atop my Ruger #1 in .243. I have found it to be exceptionally clear and now it rides on my M77 RSI in .250 Savage. Good scope.

DanEPOn 3 #1's, I have a Zeiss (.35 Whelen), a Nikon Monarch (7mm rem mag), and a Redfield Widefield 2-7x (.458 win). They all seem to be fine. The Redfield is notable in that if I had a chance for a scope cut, that rifle should do it, but I haven't had any difficulties. Also, the Redfield has stood up to the recoil with no hiccups. As it stands, all of the scopes have performed fine...
