Ruger No 1 end of life

Greg KRuger No 1 end of life
My local dealer, who is a Ruger guy, says Ruger looks like they are discontinuing the No 1. His distributor has them at close out prices.
04 December 2016, 23:30
dpcdWhich distributor is that? I might need to stock up on them.
I am not surprised though; most the young guys I know won't even buy a walnut stocked rifle, and do not know what a single shot falling block is.

JeffreyPhDI have been reading this in a number of places as well. A sad day IMHO. When I go to the range nearby, almost everyone is shooting black rifles. Most will blast off 8-10 rounds for each one that I shoot.

ColoradoMattA local dealer told me this as well. I am glad that they made the 24" 1-A in 7x57 before production ended, but I can't afford one right now. Had to sell my beloved 26" 1-S-C 45-70 a year ago when I lost my last job due to knee injury. I'm sure I'll have to pay $2000 for either gun when and if I can afford one again. Sad times for classic guns for sure. I swore I would never ever buy a black rifle. However, my son wants an AR-15, so I bought a cheap Anderson lower just before the election. I wonder if classic and traditional rifles would not be on the endangered species list if gun control was not such a serious threat. Seems like a lot of folks are spending their money in protest to "black" gun control, and to "get one while you still can". The age demographics are certainly a factor as well. There are a lot fewer millennial hunters. The millennials and xyz generations are buying black guns and cheap guns just to have and shoot recreationally, it seems to me. Sad times!

Heed the words of Winston Smith in Orwell's 1984:
"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Dutch44I was in Zim hunting with Richie Schultz and one of the Rex Hoets was guiding the marketing manager for Ruger. He told me that any model must sell 50,000 units or it is not profitable.

Here it´s the same. I don´t want anyone to forbit something. But must it always be an AR as the first gun? Here in the shooting clubs it´s the same, the trent is to buy a AR.... I´m member in three clubs and three assosiations. But with a few shooters, the ammunition throughput must be right...
Back to Ruger #1. Here´s a very nice one, not expensive.....

buckeyeshooterI read on the Ruger forum that they will be non catalogued runs and Lipsey's specials.
This is a gun, I have always wanted but never bought. If I can find a 35 Whelen with nice wood. I'll bring it home.

customboltOne on Guns America. The metal quality is sub-quality IMO. Looks like the polish job was 'rushed'. It is titled as such [below] if you care to view and "inquire" as these guys do answer questions promptly..............
Ruger #1A 7mm08 NIB Last of the #1s

InstructorAlways liked the Ruger No. 1 and 3 for they can be changed to just about any caliber you want by simply changing barrel and appropriate extractor per caliber. No. 1 has barrel for 22-250 and 348Win. No.3 has barrel for 22Hornet and 45/70. These rifles are not safe queens nor "just for look'n" but get shot fair amount in all the calibers. Some complain about the accuracy of the rifle, but I find they do well.
That could that barrels are from Douglas, not factory barrels.

df06Beautiful guns, the #1.
I had four of them and none were very accurate at all, so they were sold.
Oh, I did spend quite a bit on triggers, and various accurizing improvements, with marginal improvement.

jaegerfrankWhile I like the look and the concept I quickly sold my 9,3x62 No.1. Unexpected heavy recoil and the accuracy was not there. I guess you can be lucky or modify them but I did not want to bother.

Big Wonderful WyomingI have had quite a few. Only a stainless 375 was accurate. I'd own another stainless one, thought it is kind of an abomination.

BuglemintodaySo where are they closing them out at cost? I wouldn't mind ordering one or two depending on price.
6.5 Creedmoor w/ 28" barrel
.257 Weatherby w/ 28" barrel
.22/250 w/ 26" or the heavy Varmint barrel
.30-06 w/ 26" barrel
.300 Weatherby
Maybe one or two International models with the full length stock
Open to other Calibers/options and Close-Out pricing

JeffreyPhDIf you check out Guns International, you will find the 1A in 280, some in 270, and even a 222 for $999. Cabalas had a bunch of those but seemed to have raised the price again to about $1050. There are some RSI guns in 7x57, 30-06, 257 Bob for close to that. The recent Lipseys guns seem to be posted at full retail (6.5 Creedmore). I haven't seen any of the Lipseys 7x57 1A 24" bbl or 35 Whelen 24" bbl models in a few months at least. Seems like those were the hits of the last series.

BuglemintodayTwo weeks ago Cabelas had the 26" .22-250 in stock on sale for $999.99 but I wasn't in a position to purchase.
Probably the last BNIB chance I had for one...without tackling Guns Intl or Gunbroker.
They still have a few big bore choices for anyone looking

drhall762On my last crawl through some gun shops I ran across a No.1 International in 7x57. Thought hard about it.

I like those full length stock #1's. If I needed another .30-06 I would get one. I am really set on getting a .22-250 next.
I think a #1 International in 6.5x55 would be entertaining though
