Encore 405 Winchester
Just recieved a new Encore barrel from Cabela's, which is the only place you can get a 405 Win in SS. Paid a couple of dollars extra for the SS. Mounted a Warne Weaver base and a Leupold VX III 1.5-5 scope. Hornady 300gr. FP @ 2250 FPS. Boresighted and second shot cut the X!

Worked on 100 yds and when finished 50-100 1" difference.

This barrel is good. Haven't weighed the rig, but est. 5.5 lbs and kicks the snot out of me on the bench.

Mounted a NECG peep on the Weaver base, two shots and not in the money, way low. Need a 1/4 -3/8 higher front sight. Will order shortly.

Going bear hunting in Idaho in June and the 405 Win will be plenty medicine.

That is not the only way. This is a Van Horn custom barrel with Bullberry stocks.

Very nice, how does she shoot? What do you plan to use it for?

The new stock takes much of the punishment away compared to the factory original and is better for the iron sights I installed. I did have to put a lower front ramp on it as I ran out of sight adjustments at the range and it was still a few inches to low. Initial accuracy was a bit disappointing with factory ammo at first but my handloads did much better. If I ever get a chance to elk or moose hunt, this rifle is coming along and may even try some whitetail hunting with lighter cast bullets.

I am fairly happy with my accuracy, even with Hornady flat points. I put some .411 Northforks on order, but he won't ship until late May. So, I ordered a couple of boxes of 300 gr. Barnes X to try. Not sure I want to trust the Hornady's on bear.

What powder & load are you using? I can't find the 405 Win in any of my reference books. Just got my dies in. Need to shoot some more factory stuff so I have the brass. Saw a post somewhere here and I think it was 50+ grains of RL-7.

New front sight should be at my office when I get there in the morning.

Plan on doing some trigger work too. Just recieved a spring and pin package from Bellm. I did a trigger on my other Encore with Bellm's stuff and it is sweet.

Hodgdon's web site has loading data for several different bullets. I'll bet that lil Encore does belt you when it goes off!! beer

My rifle is a Ruger #1 that weighs a good bit more ( 9# I think Confused )and I ended up with about a pound of lead in the buttstock to help slow things down.

I did shoot a couple of the early Hornady bullets into water jugs, jackets just fell off, but I see the new .411's are billed as "Interlock". I use the Woodleigh 400gr softs in my rifle, if it liked 300gr I'd use the Woodleigh 300 weldcore as the 400's seem to hold together well.

Where did you find the Woodleighs? I have looked every where and nobody has them.

I got the 400gr from Midway. But they are running low on Woodleigh inventory and only have the 400's in .408" diameter not .411". I received an e-mail when I asked if they were dropping Woodleigh and they said they were awaiting a new shipment but that service from Australia was sporadic.

2nd guess as to a supplier would be Huntington's.
