James KainAnyone know of any Trapdoor or Sharps Kit Guns?
I m not a rich man by far. That in mind, I was wondering if anyone knows of any "kit guns" for any BPCR rifles? I m looking for a trapdoor or a sharps in 30 to 40cal range. If anyone can help would be greatly appreciated!
On a side note, did the 30-40K started off black powder?

James KainThose are nice, just not my top choice. I'v just always loved the sharps and trapdoors.

Although I would be willing to take a look at any alternatives due to the cash registrants and to get started with BPCR loading. (now only if Jim at the gun shop bought one, I could make payments

)

Wow! You must be 1 of 2 things! 1, hard core hobbiest/collector! or 2 gunsmith?
all-n-all that's still pretty sweet! But I m down to counting the change jar every now and again so cannot afford to do such things

VA pays well but not well enough to though into such projects.
Do you have any pointers for a new comer into the BPCR field?

Alright, I thought it started as black powder then switched to smokeless.

Bill/OregonJames: Regarding the trapdoors, often you can find one in reasonably good shape but with a ruined barrel for not a lot of money. You can then rebarrel to one of several calibers available in the 1868-1886 period, or you can have a TD barrel relined to .45-70 or another caliber. I had one relined with a a .400/.408 barrel chambered to .40-82. It was a lot of fun to load for and shoot. Bobby Hoyt is a master at relining.
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

I will have to ask my gunsmith about relining! Thanks for the idea! I guess reading it the 2nd time really made it click.
Thanks!
