The mossberg single shots I have seen around here seem pretty pricey to me. What are they discounted to in Florida?

It seems according to Mossberg themselves that production of the SSI1 has been 'suspended', not discontinued whatever that means. I own one in 30/06 and it seems to be very well made and tight. I think the major gripes about it from what I hear is the weight and a heavy trigger. After some polishing my trigger is excellent but that didn't help the total weight of the gun. I like it so I'll keep it, I just wish I had a 308 barrel instead. Most places seemed to have dropped the prices to between $200.00 and $300.00, not bad for a gun that started out over $400.00.

Checked www.thegunsource.com and they had only one version of SSi and it was a 30-06, for $277.48.

It's kind of funny, everyone talking about prices and here in the Phoenix area some friends and I have been looking for one at the area shops and none of us have ever even seen one. I've heard they are pretty good rifles and would like to have one but they just don't show up here.

It seems to me they're a little heavy in standard calibers, but the extra weight would be acceptable for a varmint rifle or a magnum. I don't know if they ever produced a magnum, however.

Mossberg was trying to fill a void in price somewhere between the Handi Rifles and the Ruger #1s. Apparently those that wanted a good, budget buy still got the Handi Rifles, and those that wanted better than those skipped over the Mossberg offering to the #1s.

The reports early on, between announcement of the rifle and availability on dealers shelves, was that there were accuracy problems with these. Hence the longer-than-usual availabiltiy delay after announcement. Haven't read much anywhere ,except some gun rag whores, extolling much at all about these.

They are are the closeout rack at the local Gander Mountain and the largest dealer in this part of the state gave up on them shortly after they moved the first couple, in part because the demand dropped off after folks saw and handled them.
