TentmanModestly Priced Actions ?
Hello Folks
I've made a fairly wide trawl of the net looking for a modestly priced action, preferably of the falling block type, on which to build a take-down rifle. I'm thinking on spending up to $400-500. Chamber will probably be 7x57R or 25-303
I've ruled out Martinis (I already have 2) as the steel is usually quite soft and my smith feels that the barrel threads get sloppy too soon on a heavily used (ie frequently taken down) rifle, although a modern replica might be ok. The usual standby from Ruger isn't really suitable for a takedown unless someone knows how to modifiy the spring system in the forend.
I've got a couple of break actions (eg NEF/Baikal's) but don't like the tip up action for serious hunting.
Any other suggestions of something that is reasonably readily obtainable??
Cheers - Foster

Savage99If you were to take the stock off and on a SS would that satisfy your reasons?

Bad Ass WallaceYour smith obviously does not know Martini's. One of the best takedown rifles that I've seen was a Winchester 405 built on a Greener GP.
This is a large framed Martini that was originally designed as a takedown. The action frame is split vertically and one half turn on the locking screw with a coin allows the barrel to be removed.
