Details! Details!

I want to hear about the barrel, what length, contour, is the front sight base integral? Is there a rib that runs the entire length? Is it round or ovate? From the pic it is difficult to tell.

thanks for the help with the photo. the barrel was made by Ralf Martini. It has a raised rib full length and is swamped. the front base is integral. i was very happy with Ralfs work. The .303 will have a similar barrel just smaller contour. There were a lot of details that went into building this gun . In additon to the barrel work Ralf went through both actions ,re made screws and other detailing

A little history and those who did the work.

I obtained the pair of actions from Darwin Hensley. Both actions had near perfect original engraving . I commissioned his son Trez to stock the rifle. The metal finishing was done by Dave Norin . The barrel and action work By Ralf Martini, the engraving on the barrel and grip cap by Jerome Glimm,. I have to thank all the ACGG members who did the work. The Oak and leather case by FEI. Gun will be on display at the 2009 ACGG show in Reno .

This is a great show and i would encourage all interested in fine guns to attend .

WOW, great looking rifle.

Looking forward to seeing it in Reno. We always stop by the ACGG show on Friday afternoon.

Great show with some real gun eye candy to look at.

Clay:

Lovely rifle. It is a shame you could not afford a good piece of straight grained wood for it though...

But seriously, how does the Luxus Walnut guy pick a piece of wood? I could waffle for days just on what you bring to the Reno show. And do, come to think of it...

What's this about a baby Farquaharson? I want answers! I also want a Farquharson rook rifle. Please do bring it to Reno if at all possible.

Best regards,

That rifle takes my breath away, and what a perfect caliber for its thoroughbred ancestry.
A real "pearler" as they say far to the south ...

Glenn,

hope your doing well. i picked the wood for the pair of Gibbs rifles from a pair of blanks that were ribbon figure burl. The guns deserve this wood. I like the contrasty blondes also but for these classic rifles i wanted a more suitable wood .

The mini is being proved out now . I should have the gun in the white by the guild show. Hope to show the prototype to you then. I can email a photo if you would like .

Clay:

I am doing well, thanks, and hope you are as well.

I am looking forward to seeing you again at the Guild show, and will even more if that little Farquharson action is there.

By all means, email me with any info you have on the baby Farquharson. gfewless@tds.net

Guys, if y'all want to see some wood, make a pilgrimage to the Guild show in January and see the pile of wood that Clay has there. It is enough to make a wood junkie weak in the knees...

Good news from Trez Hensley . He will have the mate to the Gibbs 450/400 at the ACGG show in RENO. He will have the matching Gibbs .303 there in the white and stocked. He said it looks better than the 450/400.

These rifles looked even better in person.

If that's even possible.

Very nice work.

I REALLY hate that I was not able to travel to Reno this year. This rifle was one of the first things I wanted to see in person. I got to fondle all of the metal work when it was in the white and broken down into pieces. THis was the day before the metal finishing started. It all looks great, and particularly that barrel. It has to be seen in person to truly appreciate what was involved in making it. I know folks are impressed (as am I!) by the wood, but the metal work is a match for the wood quality and stock job quality. Not many rifles manage to have so much done to an equally high degree

Damn! As I am typing this it is making me hate that I could not make the trip even more. Plus I wanted to fondle Clay's wood.
