I have oner in .375. It is pretty accurate, on the order of 1.1 MOA. It might shoot better for someone who is less affected by recoil, however. But I have never fired a round of factory ammo in it. (It does very well with handloads using Barnes X bullets!!)

The first consideration is the trigger. Those on the current crop of No. 1's seem to lack the weight-of-pull adjustment latitude of the earlier ones. [Frown]

I had to have a gunsmith "fix" my .375, which is a 1990's production rifle. The best he could do with the factory trigger was # 3. I believe I will go with an aftermarket trigger eventually. Maybe a Canjar single-set like I have on my No. 1A 7X57, a fabulous trigger!! [Cool]

Next, you may find it necessary to have a "forend hanger/forend job" done on it. Many No.1's shoot more consistently after such work. I have never had to do this to any of mine, though, as they all shot well enough "out-of-the-box". [Big Grin]

Then, in order to get the best possible accuracy available from a factory load, you will have to try a number of different factory loads until you happen upon the one or ones it "likes". This may be the first load you test. For me, it would be the last one, of course!! [Roll Eyes]

When you find that load, buy a large quantity of THE EXACT SAME LOT NUMBER. This is because your rifle might not do as well with a different lot of the same load.

It is possible that you will find some kind of factory ammo that's as accurate as a top handload would be. Some people have found these "magic factory loads"!! I never have, though.

Thanks for the post. I am not really worried about the recoil as my personal favorite guns I own are a 300 wby and a 458 win. After reading through the AR forums I have heard so many different things about this particular topic I wanted to narrow down specific problems that seemed to effect all #1s. The trigger I have heard alot about and I will probably have that done immediately as I do not like heavy or spongy triggers. I will just play with it awhile and see what it can do and go from here. Have you had any problems with the barrels?
