TimberlineActual Weights for Ruger No. 1s
For many hunters, rifle weight isn’t a big deal. In fact, a bit more weight helps steady the tremors during any shot and it certainly dampens recoil. But, for a fair number of those who hunt the western mountains, the weight of every bit of gear we carrying is carefully considered. In fact, actually weighing our gear – including our rifles – becomes a bit of a habit.
I recently had an opportunity to weigh a number of cutting-edge Ruger No. 1s with an accurate digital scale, and I thought I’d share that information with you. Bear in mind that rifles, particularly wood-stocked rifles, can and will vary in weight due to wood densities.
So, for what it’s worth, here are some actual Ruger No. 1 weights. In some cases, actual weights varied a good bit from what is listed for that model on the Ruger website.
Ruger No. 1 Light Sporter in .30-06 (22-inch barrel) – Ruger website says 7.25 pounds. Actual weight of sample was 6 lbs.14 oz.
Ruger No. 1 Boddington Lion in .375 Ruger (22-inch barrel) – Ruger website says 7.25 pounds. Actual weight of sample was 7 lbs. 4 oz.
Ruger No. 1 Medium Sporter in 9.3x74R (22-inch barrel) – Ruger website says 7.25 pounds. Actual weight of sample was 7 lbs. 5 oz.
Ruger No. 1 Boddington Buffalo in .450-400 NE (24-inch barrel) – Ruger website says 9 pounds. Actual weight of sample was 7 lbs. 15 oz.
Ruger No. 1 Boddington Kudu in .300 H&H (26-inch barrel) – Ruger website says 8.25 pounds. Actual weight of sample was 7 lbs. 12 oz.

molemanThanks for the info. Interesting that the actual weights run less than listed, as this usually isn't the case.

BlankMy walnut No. 1-H in 450-400 NE is 8 lbs. 12 oz., with the 2.5X Leupold and one in the chamber. Shoots great off sticks, but the standard hard rubber pad is not great.

This really gets my hackles up! I have a No. 1 in 375 H&H and it weighs over 9 pounds. The barrel is way too heavy.
I really don't see why Ruger didn't build these to come in at 7 or 7.25 pounds. Would have been a great rifle.
