Scope Recommendations? Low power, long eye relief
All right, sick and tired of the scope on my no 3 sitting right over the block. Makes a pain to clean more than anything. I can see clear down into the mechanism. I want a scope I can mount out further getting the eye piece over the chamber/barrel.

thanks dudes.

I've wondered about the same thing. I've thought about getting and mounting a Leupold M-8 IER Scout scope in standard Ruger rings, and pushed as far forward as it will go. By my figuring, that would give around 7 inches of eye relief. The book says that scope has 9.3 inches of eye relief. I don't know how that would work out. Does anybody know, or have any advice?

Gents,

Have you considered a "red-dot" sight, such as an Aimpoint or an ACOG? If you're not looking for a great deal of magnification, they should work well. Aimpoint does have a 2X model, but most are non-magnified (1X). Eye relief is unlimited. ACOG requires no batteries, yet will work in any lighting conditions.

Burris (?) makes Ruger to Weaver adapters, and most of the dot sights uses weaver bases.

(Added to clarify/correct above comments) Aimpoints generally use 30mm ring(s), and should work with Ruger 30mm rings. ACOG also has 3.5X and 4X models.

Just a thought, Bill

Scout scopes work great, also if you prefer the traditional mounting, the lower power scopes (so used)that they used to sell (Weaver 3X, Leupold 3X, etc) should have enough eye relief for you Dago. - Dan

I think the Leupold 4X COMPACT has about 5" of eye relief, if I recall correctly!
