dej4701878 Sharps for sale
Hello folks,
I am planning to sell a rifle I purchased a while back, originally for a project to clean it up as a shooter. Can anyone advise me of a source for getting an appraisal of value either by shipping it or sending photos? I'd like to find what I can reasonably expect to get for it.
Many thanks in advance.

dej470I neglected to mention in my initial post that a previous owner had either replaced the mititary forearm, or quite neatly cut down and reshaped it. It has the appearance of a sporter, but the barrel shows that it was originally in the full length military stock. So it needs a good cleaning / refinishing?, and the original military rear sight is missing.
How badly does that impact the value?
Thanks

Pfeiferdej470,
Unfortunately we've heard this story many times wrt the 1878 military rifles. In fact my friend was telling me last month that he knows where another "worked over" military rifle is. In any case these are still quite sought after for building custom SS rifles. In my book, examples like yours should be preserved since there are now folks building repro Borchardts, but not everyone feels that way.
I have an original 1878 Borchardt SRC (only 384 made) and just took some pictures of it yesterday. I believe the buttstocks are the same between our models. I wouldn't mind picking up another buttstock for mine as well if whoever you sell it to strips it for the action. Mine has the original RH Lawrence sight with the graduations on it - marked to 7. Here are some pictures of mine:

dej470Nice have one so rare!
I'm undecided whether to list the rifle in the classifieds here, or do it auction style on gunbroker.
I haven't yet figured how to get pics into a post in here.

That's a nice old piece! I wish I could afford another at this time as I'd make you an offer. As it is, I have two kids in college at the moment and had to buy them both laptops last week, so a bit tapped out at the moment. I'd like to know what kind of figure you had in mind though if you'd PM me.
