Idaho Sharpshooterpersonally, I wish they had made them with an optional 26" barrel and express sights.

PeglegI've been looking for one for some time now. Just-a-Hunter had a 30-06 for sale in the classifieds and if it had had a 24" tube it would have been headed my way with a quick trip to my smith for re-chamber. Love Todd's gun!

Mike ScottThere are some special runs with 26" barrels out there. There was at least one Cabelas and of course the Boddingtons. These are sometimes available from reasonable to unreasonable prices if you poke around the right corners long enough.

jwmUnless I'm mistaken, all of the .300H&H #1's were fitted with 26-inch barrels. I've never heard of or seen any other length.
I have one, not a Cabela's nor a Boddington special, but it was still described by the seller as part of a limited run. It was purchased from a well-respected Canadian retailer who imports and sells a lot of #1's in non-standard chamberings that are produced in small numbers (Prophet River, for the other Canucks in the audience).

Man, a No.1 in .300 H&H with a 26" tube would be the cat's ass. Love to have one.

JeffreyPhDTO the best of my knowledge, Ruger has never offered a 300 H&H that didn't have a 26" bbl. Mine is not a special run of any sort, it has that bbl length. If different, it may be rechambered or rebarreled. That said, Ruger produces guns that are not cataloged at times. Maybe there is such a thing.

PeglegI found a No.1 in 300 H&H and it is headed home to me. Yes it has a 26" tube. I will top it off with a newly acquired Zeiss Scope.

JeffreyPhDNice. Which model: regular 1S, Boddington, Cabelas' run?

PeglegMine is a No.1-S Doesn't have great wood but I have a plan.
Looking now for a leather butt sleeve for a cartridge holder. I won't put nylon on my rifles.

Bill/OregonNice grab, Pegleg. You will of course oblige with photos when you can, I hope.

Pegleg,
Check out Dick Murray custom leather. I bought one from him for my 1885 .300 H&H. Very classy looking.

AtkinsonI love the old 300 H&H, and when properly loaded with 200 gr. Nosler partition at just a bit over 3000 FPS in a 26 inch tube, it kills game of all manner..I have used the no. 1S and an old pre war mod. 70 on about every critter on the planet other than elephant as best I recall, but would not hesitate to use it on Tembo given the opertunity and a good FN Bridger solid..
The only 300, not counting the new RUMs and that ilk, that I could make shoot as fast as the 300 H&H is the 300 Wby and it only beat my 300 H&H by 100 FPS with certain loads of IMR7828..That sez booookuuuu for the old girl..
Today I have a 300 Win. magnum, don't like it as much, but its OK and does the job, but sits in the cabnet mostly as the .338 has become my pet of pets for elk in open country.
