Thinking of getting one to hunt Buffalo with someday when I hit the lottery.
Just looking for opinions on these rifles.I have a No.1 in 45-70 and love it.
Anyone got a No.1 in 375 H&H if so how do you like it?

I've had one for quite awhile and love. Doesn't kick too bad either Just replace the recoil pad with something else.

rws2,I have one ,for over 20 years,never shot it more than once at the game it shot.
It has worn blueing and a straight 6 power Leupold on it.
It's very accurate ,the bore has toolmarks in it so if the barrel is clean I have fire 6 rounds each will hit 1" apart from the nexts one the 7 th to 20 or so will shoot 3 shot group's @200y in 3/4"
It is a nice in the truck and on the ATV gun being just as long as a 94 Winch.
It also a great stress reliever if in a argument with a Grizzly.

I got one about three years ago and have had a hoot with it. Very accurate, recoil is not nearly as bad as I expected. I've loaded it down and taken deer. Have taken 2 eland on a Texas ranch, one shot each and they flopped over. It's very handy and easy to carry.

All said, I've recently found a beautiful Whitworth and will be selling the Ruger. I found it for a good price and can make a reasonable deal if you're interested. Bob

I'm thinking a No.1 in 375 might make a nice Christmas present.

Got a 1H 375 Stainless/laminate about 8mos ago and absolutely love it - enuf that I sold one of my 375 bolt guns since then. Replaced the pad with a decelorator (kicked harder than either of my other 375s before that) and will have the safety recessed in the next month. It shoots 5 260gr NosPars into 1.25" @ 2800fps- quickly becoming one of my favorites.

We have one and love it. It doesn't kick near as much as the No. 1 in .45-70 or .416 Rigby, also which we have. Just be sure to put on a good recoil pad for when you want to load her up hot. With 250 gr. X bullets at 2887 fps it is a real pussycat, at least on the shooter's end.

Got one in SS and laminate about 6 months ago myself. Have a Leupold Vari-X I 2x7 on it. Will put my Leupold Vari-X III 3.5x10 40 on it when I can afford another scope for the 7MM Rem Mag. Broke it in correctly according to my friend. Love the rifle. Use it for whitetails when the shot is no more than 200 yds. I zeroed it for 170 yds. Seems very accurate at the rifle range. Have taken two whitetails with it this year so far. Shoot Fed Prem 300 Noslers for the deer will switch to Fed Prem 300 TBBC for large and dangerous game, which is why I bought the rifle to begin with.

I have been a fan of Ruger firearms from the start. I think they make the best stateside firearms overall from top to bottom.

Ive got a SS/laminate 375H&H coming in the next couple of days,been waiting for it to clear customs for a fortnight.
BHW, what is the method of running in the barrel?
and what are the standard open sights like?
I wont be able to afford a scope for awhile, just bought a house.

I did have one but sold it. I used to handload it a lot. Used the speer 235 grain bullets and reloader 15. My son shot an elk with it three years ago and it did a job on that elk. Didn't kick that much. These rifles have a heavy barrel.

I also had one for many years & loved it. Then I had it re-chambered to 375 Ultra Mag and like it even better.

Very accurate but a "shoulder tenderizer".

Please explain "having the safety recessed".

I have one, and it is excellent! Pretty light, very handy, plenty accurate!! I have a Leupold 2.5-8X scope on mine, and I should have put a 1.5-5X on it for closeup shooting. This is the only change I would make.

Having the safety recessed means rebuilding the safety button so that you put the sharp edges under the reciever steel rather than over it. My #1 in .458 Win just loves to cut my thumb when fired because this hasn't been done to it, and also empties sometimes hit the safety and try to bounce back into the chamber, slowing reloading time a little.

Maz. Try tilting the rifle to the right as you eject the round. That works for me with my .375 H&H and .300 Win. Mag. #1s.
