JPH45I hope so too. I completely enjoy mine. The Max is a perfect example of a very good cartridge being pigeonholed. No one outside the silhoutte shooters even considered the cartridge for anything else. It would make a great chambering in something like a Winchester '92, and reaches perfection in the Handirifle

hm2i built one years ago on a small martini action.sturdy original peep sight. nice gun to just take for a walk on fall afternoons for whatever may come.

sharps54I have a Competitor pistol with a 14" barrel in .357 Max. I haven't had a chance to do much with it yet but look forward to playing with it.

12FLVSSI have a little problem with my rechamber, seems there is about a .001 difference between the old chamber and the reamer so fired brass has a visible ring where the old chamber ends and the new begins. The brass "necks down" at the end about that .001. Badnews Bob did his this evening over at my place and got no such ring. What do ya think? Is it just going to be bad on brass or is it more serious?

LeftoverdjI doubt it will even be bad on brass. Just shows your original chamber was a bit oversized for the new Max reamer to quite clean up. If it really bothers you, I could fit a shank to a fired max case for you to use with 600 grit polishing compound to polish the chamber a mite. I would not bother in the absence of a known problem.

graycgI've got 4 max barrels and one of them is a 21 carbine, I love it. I treat it kind of like a 38-55 the way I load it, big heavy cast bullets 200-250 grains moving between 1300-1800 fps, lots of fun and not too much recoil!

C. 2000 fps
Say 1900 fps w/200 grainers and just over 2000 w/ 180 XTPs seated to the rear cannelure over a case full of 680.

HobieYou will see some who claim that they get 200 gr. RNs to 2000 fps in 18" or shorter barrels. They have to really be pushing things even using 680, AA1680, etc. IME, H110 does 1900+ with the 180s and 1700-1800 with the 200s. That's in my long barrel. This is still comparable to FACTORY .35 Remington which in my guns commonly does about 1850 fps for a 200 gr. bullet.

JPH45I have a Handirifle I rechambered back in the spring of 2003. With 26 grains of 1680 it gives 2060 fps. I shot a spike whitetail at 25 yards with that load, it shattered the nearside foreleg bone, drove through the heart, cutting a 1.5" ragged hole it in and exited the far side. Deer dropped like he had been hit with a sledgehammer. Awesome performance.
Hobie, DJ has been trying to tell me for the last 9 months that the 1800-1850 fps I have been getting with 200 grain bullets is as good as the factory 35 Remington load. DJ, I hope you read this, as I am going to have a helping of 35 caliber 200 grain bullets and some H110 and 1680 with my crow. Perhaps this will soften my hardheadedness. One would think that as many times as I have eaten crow in my life my brains would run like water through a sieve.....oh well, maybe before I die I will become teachable...

I clocked the Winchester and Remington factory 200 gr. .35 Rem loads at about 1836-1860 fps from my 21" Contender barrel AND in a Model 8 Remington. That's 200 fps less than advertised!
Of course the .357 Max can make up the difference because in most guns you don't want the .35 Rem to go over about 35,000 CUP while the Max works at about 50,000 CUP. In the Contender, it is the smaller case head size that makes this workable.
You shouldn't feel at all bad. First, Leftoverdj looks a lot like me, that's worse AND we all have made mistakes. AT LEAST you can get over making a mistake. Leftoverdj will have to opt for some serious surgery to avoid looking like me...
