surefire7338-74 Keith
I asked this in the medium bore forum, but I think I'll ask it here as well:
Does anyone own a Ruger No.1 in 338-74 Keith?

Big Wonderful Wyoming8.5x63R Reb would be very similar. And you can buy brass for it.

Idaho SharpshooterIs this not simply the 9,3x74R case improved slightly and necked to 338 caliber?
Four companies make the 9,3 brass.
If so, I would just have the barrel marked 338/9,3x74R

dpcdDies?
Usually the hard, expensive, part of the equation.

Idaho Sharpshooterme, I just go to CH4D's url and type 338 in on the caliber box. It's on page two near the bottom, and dies are $119. They also offer the reamers.

surefire7Idaho Sharpshooter,
Thank you for the reply. Yes, you are correct. It is the 9.3x74R, improved and necked down to 338.

Gerrys-f7,
There was an interesting article in "Big Bore Rifles & Cartridges" written by Bob Hagel on the .338-74 Keith years ago and the rifle was a Ruger No.1, too.
Always peaked my interest; too many other rifle projects and not enough time ..... sadly.

surefire7Gerry,
Thanks for the reply. I have read the article by Bob Hagel in my copy of 'Wildcat Cartridges'. It's the only one I've found so far.

Michael WilkersonI had a good friend who owned one. He was a friend of Elmer Keith and used loads that were recommended by Elmer. It was built on a #1 Ruger with a barrel by Iver Henriksen. He told me it shot very well and accounted for many elk and mule deer. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago and I never had a chance to shoot it.
