ruger no1 scope base
I have ruger no1 in 243 which I inherited from from friend. The problem is the scope relief,I need to change the scope mounting system to something like the moulds mounts from Brownells.
http://www.brownells.com/.aspx..._reg___1_SCOPE_BASES.
Unfortunately Brownells are out of stock and have been since Christmas, every phone call to them results in "they will be in,in two weeks".
A google search does not show any other sources for these mounts or the manufacturer.
Are there any other options!
I need to mount a 30mm tube scope preferably on a picatinny.

Ian (VA)Hi Griff,
Here's another option that would offer a little extra flexibility for ring placement as well:
http://swfa.com/Burris-Ruger-t...e-Adapter-P2146.aspxDownside is it retains the Ruger rib and may look a bit more convoluted than the Moulds. Upside is it is readily available and at 25% the cost.
Best,
Ian
Ian,
I have seen some of those advetized here in the UK.
I agree with you it be a little conveluted, rib bolts to barrel, adapter bolts to rib, then rings bolt to adapter.
Probably not the best way but still an option.

Griff
I bought a set of the Burris mts. They work well and fit well. However, after adding the adapter and then a set of the lowest mounts available in 30 mm, they are still so high as to be unusable. My cheek would not make contact with the stock when looking through the scope, and on a 416, that's a problem.
I used Burris Rings on my No.1. I then used a low power Leupold scope. Eye relief is no problem. I'm not sure this helps, just an option.
The problem is partially the #1 design and party the current fetish with short tubed scopes.
Find an old model Burris or other brand that has a long tube behind the turret.
Ruger #3 with Weaver bases and Burris Signature rings.
The bases are fitted to barrel. Rear Base is a #
#52 and fitted on top of the action. A small step is milled to the rear of the base.
The front base is a #46 but others can be used depending on the barrel contour. Not a big job.
The Burris adaptor is terrible to look at and adds a lot of useless weight. Been there done that.
something different or how to mount an 8X56 on a #1

scubaproHere is mine, working with a Zeiss rail mount:
unfortunally not in 30mm for you - so it won´t help...
