New Dakota finally got here.

Sorry that the low-light pictures don't show well. I think the 7 month wait was worth it. The CCH is brighter than it appears. I was worried when I went to pick it up and saw that FEDEX trashed the end of the cardboard box and a bout a foot of the Dakota case.

Thanks Cat. I hadn't considered the cleaning rod. But, I don't think the comb is high enough to pose a problem.

Bwana1: I'd prefer the screws on the right facing the left side. But, better not. They appear to be indexed.

Done. Just didn't seem right having the top screw ends facing the left/best side. Can't be much difference if any.

Cliff, I usually have the side without levers facing outwards when at port arms as a righty. Whichever side is "cleanest goes to the outside. Not sure it matters that much. (Except on your new 204 Ruger Blaser Semi-Weight barrels!!!) :-)

That's some really nice English. By Dakota's standards it must have been rated "Super-Ultra-Mega-Deluxe-Exhibition Grade"!

Glen71: Their same grades vary quite a bit. No Super-Ultra-Mega-Deluxe-Exhibition Grade, Dakota's exhibition as standard on the Deluxe. This one stood out so I grabbed before it was gone.

Quite a fine rifle !
And in one of my favorite rounds. My Ruger #1A
is chamberd for the same round and squirts 140 grain bullets out of the 22 inch barrel at 2900
with H-414.
Groups are great too.
But it aint near so pretty ! ...tj3006

Pretty rifle. I have it's twin except mine is marked 7x57. Do you find the comb high? I started with low rings and wound up eventually with highs. It was the only way I could quickly shoot the rifle. I have a couple model 76 bolt guns and they come up perfectly. Enjoy it!

Never shot much off the shelf stuff.
But if Was going to, i would go for the light magnum hornady. I pushes them out at a respctible speed.
I shot some 145 grain wichesters just to get the brass and it was less than 2600 fps.

tj I'll try some Hornady's next weekend. I already have some Superformance and Custom in 139 grain on hand. I'll keep an eye out for some old stock LM's. Thanks for mentioning them. I wasn't aware they made them.

The outfit that sold me this one just knocked $1,500 off a bunch of their Model 10's with a ebony tip, CCH and octagon barrel a few days ago on GunBroker. Wood is standard grade AAA. No cheek piece.

When you can find it, the Federal Premium load with the 140 grain Nosler Partition shot well for me. It is a mild load but really good for deer.

LJS. I'll keep those in mind. For now, I may have scope alignment issues to deal with. It initially shot Hornady 139 Interloks 5 inches high at just 20 yards and before I shoot anymore I'm going to check a few things. Thanks.

Thanks. The (abbreviated) phrase that popped up yesterday was POS not POI

But, I'll figure it out. I may try another scope since it still seems odd that it initially shot 5 inches high at just 30 yards yesterday. It took 65 clicks to get it near the bullseye. I did center the crosshairs before hand. I haven't compared my total clicks to factory specs yet.

Check with Dakota on the barrel twist. You may need to shoot heavier bullets. 168gr would be a good start. The .275's were originally designed for 175gr bullets. You may have to experiment quite a bit before finding the best loading.
