nordrsetaDiscounting Italian copies of Sharps, Winchester Hi-walls, and Remington rolling blocks chambered for blackpowder rounds, only the Mossberg SSI comes to mind. It has nicer ergonomics than the Encore but it's bloody heavy.

Rick RYou can usually find a Ruger #1 for under a thousand bucks. I've got a #1-B right now, but one of those CZ single shots would definitely find a spot in my gun rack if they import them into the US and sell them for under a grand.

BigfattsHow about the Remington imports? They're actually pretty nice in person and would make a nice little gun with minimal cleanup. Friend has one in .308 and it's surprisinly accurate.

Cliff LyleI believe you can buy all the #1's you want for $800 or less and even some used Browning 78's for less than $1,000.

Rick RDon't get me wrong, I love my #1 but I'd also like a rifle in a deer to elk rifle caliber that would break down to fit in a small case for travel. The H&R fits the bill but I'd also like a little more class.

I'm expecting a Knight KP-1 in 270 shortly. I'm hoping it will fit that bill.
