25.06 Encore Rifle
I recently sold my Rem 700 25.06 and now am wishing I still had a 25.06. Is this a good excuse to get into an Encore? How accurate are the factory Encore 25.06 rifle barrels? Checked out the NEF option and while cheaper it just didn't tickle my fancy.

I've heard many negatives regarding the T/C factory 25-06 barrels. The ones I've looked at in 25-06 left lots to be desired in terms of chamber/bore alignment, length of throat and concentricity of crown. I suggest you give Virgin Valley, Dave Van Horn, Bullberry, Eben Brown or SSK a call. Then, you're getting a product guaranteed for its accuracy.

What Bobby says! If you really want that caliber I would by just the frame first... FFL required. You should be able to find one for ~ $230 blued it will come with a forearm and pistol grip or buttstock. Then order you favorite length 25-06 from one of the custome houses Bobby lists.
Good Luck

What Dave says!I would also offer that you could get the muzzleloader package and go from there. Then you could go custom 25/06 and have an excellent M/L package to boot.I would go stainless but that's just me.That's what I did and couldn't be happier! [Wink]

I have two Encore frames and several barrels, both long and short. Right now, the 25-06 is the only one I'm less than satisfied with. I traded for it just because I'd never owned one. At this time I'm convinced it will not shoot anything 100 gr or heavier. The best group I've gotten was about 1.5". I haven't had time to work with the ligther stuff yet. I'd suggest a 260 Rem instead.

Gentlemen, thanks for all the input about the 25.06 Encore. From everything I've read and from my one experience with a factory Contender carbine barrel I've decided that my future TC barrels will be custom. I'm going to begin another thread on custom carbine barrels for the Contender. Encore will be on hold for now unless I find a frame.

Hey clerkofkirk,

I've got an Encore with a 24" 25-06 Bullberry barrel and decent Woodsmith Wood w/the Bullberry hanger system. I don't get around to shooting it very much - but its a good shooter. I'd be willing to sell or maybe trade (right now I'm looking for a SA revolver in 45 Colt). I'm in Greenville NC - maybe not too far from Meadowview?

If you're interested email your address and I'll send pix: soderstromk@hotmail.com

To all with 25-06 factory barrels that won't group,

Check or have checked your chamber depth. It is
probably .005-.008 too deep. Mine was grouping at
3" out of the box but after realizing the problem,
and started false shouldering .270 cases, it now
shoots 3/4" groups. Not great, but acceptable.

clerkofkirk - I had an early 70's Rem700BDL 25-06
and later sold it. After 25 years, I'm still kicking
my butt for ever selling it. Glad to see I'm not the
only fool around! [Razz]

DobleTroble, what are you asking for it? I have a new Bushmaster 16" V-match (unfired) for trade if interested.
