concept rifle

I wanted this rifle to be very uncomplicated. It is built for accuracy. The barrel (straight 1.25" diameter) just sits on the bags. The bolt face is large enough for a Wea. 378, but will handle any smaller brass (this is a .22PPC) just by changing the barrel and using an appropriate extractor. The aluminum trigger housing is a simple build and the AR parts are every where. I can swap out to a 338-378 barrel for longer range deer, etc.

Thanks, for attending to my ramblings!

We need an accurate barrel and a competition single shot bolt action. Screw the barrel into the action, add a really good trigger and the rest will fall into place! Here is one I made on a single shot 40x before I decided a fore end is just extra unnecessary stuff!

Constructive criticism is meant to be helpful. I really like the concept but the aesthetics need some refining.

IMHO integrate the bore into the receiver, lowering the axis and smoth the blocky look of the receiver.

Look at most any of the current Chassis systems and you will see it is already being done. Just leave out the magazine. Many of them use AR-15 stock systems, and round hand guards.

Gentlemen, Thanks for your input. I have a problem with aesthetics. I can design for function but not 'how it looks'. The end result is always a bit of a surprise!

What sort of accuracy has your concept achieved ?

I have shot 1000yd bench rest for a long time. The components on these rifles are left over from that time; good stuff although clearly not bench rest rifles. With these I shoot gophers in the brain at 300 yards, about 4/5 depending on field conditions. Shooting at 1000 yds over a long time taught us a lot about accuracy, new ideas and changes. There were great looking rifles but good looks were never the priority.

A big part of this concept is to be able to swap barrels easily - which I can do with a barrel vice and action wrench in my shop. I did not think it through. Would it be better to use a 'barrel nut' like Savage? Are there down sides in your experience?
