tnekkccFirst trip to the range for me and these two used #1s
1) Ruger #1 single shot falling block rifle, in .223 Remington varmint model. It cost me $542 out the door.
6.5x20x40 Leupold vari-iii boosted to 13x40x40
This rifle showed up this week with terrible Copper fouling, but good condition for 3 rd hand.
I cleaned the bore with Butch's Bore shine, Foul Out, more Butch's, ect, until I could see no copper and then I burnished it with Lyman Moly bore cream.
b) 15 gr Blue Dot 33 gr Vmax moly, 2,170" OAL does not reach lands,
a) a fouling shot an inch low and I corrected
b) 0.4" 3 shot group @ 50yards
c) 0.92" 5shot group @ 100yards
d) 0.46" 5shot group @ 100yards
e) 0.9" 5shot group @ 100yards
f) 1.02" 5shot group @ 100yards
g) 0.61" 5shot group @ 100yards
h) 0.75" 5shot group @ 100yards
i) 0.3" 5 shot group @ 50yards
That is an average of .78" 5 shot @100 yards in the a little wind
I knew the gusty wind was driving the group size, so I did the last group at 50 yards.
2) Ruger #1 .270 $600 out the door, Super Sniper 20X scope $320 delivered, what a piece of junk excuse for a scope,
This rifle had a little Copper fouling when I got it 3-24-2007 for re barreling to 6mm BR.
I cleaned it good and burnished the bore with moly bore cream.
51.3 gr canister IMR4895 130 gr Rem PSP, 3.34" moly coated
a) 2 fouling shots to get on the paper
b) 0.86" 3 shot group @50 yards
c) 1.55" 3 shot group @100 yards
d) 1.88" 3 shot group @ 100 yards
I previously bought a 223 standard and a 7mmMag #1 to re barrel, but they were too accurate to re barrel.
I can see that this 270 is not as accurate as my Howa 270 or M70 270, and lots heavier, so it is a good candidate for rebarreling

It kicks like a mule.

270 is only a pussy; now 45RCBS 3.25" case really kicks.

tnekkccI got that boosted scope in a swap for an unfired Bushmaster bullpup.
Most stuff I buy brings not no utility or pleasure. That scope has brought both.

MasteriflemanI have a #1 rebarreled by Barry Darr in .45-120 Sharps (.45-3 1/4") and it is a real rip-snorter loaded to modern levels. It has a 29" half octagon-half round barrel .850" at the muzzle and weighs over 14 lbs. but 96 gr. of W-W 985 ball powder and a 500 gr. Hornady will bug your eyeballs. It will lay them one on top of the other at 100 yds. if you put a sandbag between your shoulder and the butt. This is shooting off a bench rest. It's a real fun gun to have people who brag that recoil doesn't bother them to shoot. Usually, one shot is all they can handle and most wish thay hadn't even fired the one.
