I just ran across a 1969 Gun World magazine that had an article about a new single shot rifle that was being introduced. It was based on the 1878 hammerless Sharps-Borchardt rifle, updated and redesigned by P.O. Ackley.

There were pictures of three of the early guns. Each had a different type of lever. It was going to be available in calibers from 17-222 to 50-70. Interestingly, the .348 was going to be one of the standard calibers. Also available in light, medium, and heavy weights.

The price was projected to be $295 to $399 depending on the model. From memory, a 94 Winchester cost about $75 at the time. The first ones off the line were commemoratives that were supposed to cost $2,500 (fully engraved, gold inlaid, fancy walnut and 32-line checkering).

Anyone know what happened to it. I don't remember ever hearing about or seeing one.

I wonder if this was the same project that Colt became involved in about that time. I believe it was at the same time they introduced the Colt-Sauer rifle. IIRC, this Colt-Borchardt was actually built in very limited numbers, but cost alot more than $400.00, even then.... Here's one.
