SHARPS??? REBARREL???
I have a Pedersoli Sharp's. The model is called "The Boss". The rifle is just too heavy and long to hunt with. I was going to sell it, but some one suggested that I rebarrel it. The rifle weighs over 13 pounds, and has a 34 inch barrel.

What suggestions does anyone have for rebarreling the rifle to make it more manageable???

Can the barrel I have be recontoured???

Any recommendations as to who could do the work??? Tom.

Your barrel can be recontoured, depending on what you want to end up with. It is often easier to buy a new barrel with the proper contour and go from there. The forend will also need to be filled in or a new one made. It can add up in the end, but it is also a way to get exactly the rifle you want. I like the English style barrel that is long and thin, usually 28" to 30". Lots of guys capable as it is pretty straight forward work. I do this kind of work also.

What are you going to do with it ? Black powder ,smokeless, iron sights, scope ,cartridge ?? I have a Browning 1885 in 45-70 and I cut the 28" barrel to 22". For 300 factory or equivalent ,smokeless powder, velocity loss is negligible.Total wt with scope and strap is a good 8.5 lbs.I have no regrets ,it worked out well !! Remember that the original Sharps came in carbine version too.
