Harrington&Richardson Ultra Hunter
How well do these SS rifles shoot and how accurte are they. I am thinking of a 25-06. How do they compare to the NEF rifles. I think the action only locks on the bottom like a single shot shot- gun????
I had an insert made to fire form a 25 cal small wild cat with COW in an H&R 12 gauge SS. The brass stretched considerable so the cases would not chamber in the rifle. I don't think the loads developed more than 30Kpsi.
A 25-06 on the other hand cranks out 55Kpsi.
Any comments?

Hi Fred M. First, thanks for the info on the k95.I'll look int0 that later. Now on the H & R. not sure about ultra hunter. Fred I have a H & R tilt action in 30-06..22 inch barrel with a muz. brake. It would not shoot good enough to take hunting. I found the bore to be .311 except for a short distance at the chamnber which was .308..I took a few lead laps and some 320 grit and made the whole barrel .311...I now have a 303-06..and it will shoot 1 inch groups all day long if I use .311 bullets...It is one of my favorite rifles. easy to open. kicks out the spent brass. etc. Joe..More later..Good shooting...

RAS 323:

I just purchased a .308 Ultra for $249 - locally they ran from $245 - $250. I believe you did fine for yours. Haven't had a chance to shoot mine yet - hope you enjoy yours.

ZERMEL, the NEF and the H&R are of the same design.

They shoot pretty well.... as a rule.

If yours doesn't shoot well, there are tricks to tweak them into good shooters.

M.L McPherson has some good ideas. Some reloading tricks can also help.
