Gentleman of the Single Shot World . I have a 22 rifle that

my father left me , if I am right it looks to be a Stevens .

The best that I have come up with is that it was made in 1863

maybe 1864 . In any case I think this before Stevens and

someone merge or took over one or the other not sure about

this. I look this up on the net and used the serial number

to get the dates it was made. It is in great shape maybe like

85% .All srew heads are great finsh too. It is what they called

pony brown. The only thing is the stock has a deer head carving

on it . I am sure this does not belong there ,and I have no

ideal who put it there. Now after I have run my mouth so much

this is what I would like to find out , maybe if one of you might

give me some ideal what it is worth. My Dad said he belived

that the gun sold or one very close to it sold for

five dollars when he was a kid back in Tenn. Thanks for any help

you might be able to give me.

A picture would be of great help. Stevens was not a company to waste a good model name. When a certain rifle went out of production they would use the name on a new model. There was more than one model named Crackshot. Typically there was a model number associated with the rifles and if you have that it would solve the puzzle as well.

The Stevens model 12 Marksman was introduced around 1912. The specific markings on yours, according to my references, would place it as being made after 1916. It does not have a great deal of value. They show up at gun shows around here in the $250 range.

Howsomever, the model 12 was arguably the best boy's rifle Stevens ever made and yours appears to be a very nice one. The action is based on the Maynard system, which Stevens then owned through the purchase of the Maynard company.

You have a nice little rifle there.

Thanks for the info . I just new that I was guessing at what I had fround out

about the little gun. It is nice to have somewhere to go for help Thank You

once more. Oh my Dad was sure proud of the gun he would get it out and show

it to who ever came over and talk about it and anything else he could. I guess

I came by my running mouth natural LOL.
