Re: Ruger Custom Shop
Just reviewed Ruger website. No mention of a custom shop. Then phoned Ruger at the rifle/service div. in New Hampshire. The (very helpful) person answering the phone said Ruger HAS NO custom shop of any kind. She further stated stocks for the Ruger #1 are not for sale except as replacement/repair items...and there is no provision for the customer chosing the grade of wood if the stock is repaired or replaced.
The kind of strange exception is you CAN buy a stock set for the Ruger #3 which is no longer in production. However, again, you cannot "choose" the grade of wood. All metal parts for the #3 are available except for the lever which is the only real difference between the #1 and #3.
Looks like if you really want a new #1 with a custom stock you would have to buy a barreled action from Brownells and look for a custom stock maker like Treebone carving, and a few others.

Ruger may not have a custom shop per se, but at the SCI Convention they had a prominent display of in-house custom and engraved firearms. I kinda consider that custom, myself.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooo DRROOOOL I thought that Ruger at least used to have a custom shop. I thought they used to engrave and do a lot of custom work on their hand guns. I recently sent a 10/22 in to be completely redone. It was a gun my dad gave me about 35 years ago. Actually all I sent was the receivor which I had reblued and I had every thing else replaced. I received the gun back with a beutifull striped grain stock It sure would be nice if they had some custom guns available. I don't have a # 1 but I have the bug
