Sur5er1885 Action
Just got my seccond Browning 1885 in 45/70. Never realized they came 2 ways. With a Tang and without. I wanted the one with the tang. Who has information on these Actions? Are they the same just the tang? I got the gun off gunbroker, NIB . Great gun just no tang for the sights I wanted to put on it. I am not going to shoot it till I find out, incase I want to resale. Educate me. Thanks Sur5er

Big Bore FanYes, Browning produced two different 1885 High Wall actions. The one was for the standard rifles, champered in .22-250,.30-06, 7mm RemMag (all without sights) and .45-70 (with open sight). And the "Traditional Hunter" rifles, champered only in .30-30, .38-55 and .45-70, all with open sight and the Marbles tang sight. I have both, a standard .45-70 and the Traditional in .30-30, excelent rifles, I mean. For a few years, Browning made althought two different BPC-rifles with an 30" or 34" half octagonal barrel, in .40-65, .45-70 and .45-90WCF, all with on the tang mounted long range sights.

Perfection for NY state deer !

Sur5erYa, I think I blew it. The new gun won't have the tang.
Is there anyway to mount a rear sight in a SOLID way???
If not

I will re-sell it. Thanks to all Sur5er

loud-n-boomerI had one of the Browning 85 .45-70s without a tang. I made a false tank out of steel, drilled and tapped for the sight that I wanted to use, and blued. I epoxy-bedded the false tang into the wrist on the top of the stock. It worked fine for the long-range Soule tang sight on the rifle.
