45-70 shooterRuger # 1 300 H&H from 30-06
Finally got home (WY) put a Gentry BBl band and AH fore end on the rifle I purchased on this site.
Put a German Zeiss 3-9 on it and went to the range. Found a few (4) rounds of Federal Premium 180 gr TSX factory loads.
1st one got on the paper, reset for 3" high @ 100, and fired the other three. Worked out just fine.
This is why I bought it, but it will be a killer as well!

John303.That IMHO is a beautiful piece of wood, I have a # 1 in .300 Weatherby and ! in .375 H&H that I thought, until now, had very decent factory wood. --- John303.

siberiaSo let me guess, you ordered some more of that ammo and then went to a local bar for a nice relaxing beer? I would have. Its always much much better leaving the range with a target like that on the back seat rather than the "not a bad group for a shotgun"

Cliff LyleA beautiful stock and looks like you have a real shooter on your hands. Where will you take it this fall?

Seeing that group makes me wish that I had not sold it to you......
What was I thinking?!
Dennis Olson reamed the chamber to minimum specs. I guess I should not be surprised that it is so accurate.
I'm glad that you are enjoying it and I am happy to hear that it won't be a safe-queen.

45-70 shooterWell I finally got the 300 H&H wrapped up and done.
The final steps were to get an AH fore end (purchased from Canada), rather than building an new one from scratch I had a friend (expert stockmaker, now retired.) fit a piece of ebony into the gap left when the front of the receiver was milled off. It can hardly be seen and the fore end was stained to match the incredible buttstock.
A vintage NIB King reflector front sight was fitted to finish off the "British look".
An minty but purple M8 6X Leopold was sent in for refinishing but that was impossible so Leupold sent me a brand new FX II 6X33 scope with MY choice of reticle !
A moderate load of W760 with 180 NBTs (respecting the "short" 24" bbl) shot 5 in 1" with 3 in one ragged hole with only a 30 second pause between shots. Also tried 150 TSXs, it did not like them although as previously seen, 180 TSXs work very well. A wonderful rifle with less invested and a lot more class/good looks that the current #1 in 300 H&H. Thanks you Mr. Brown !
