Any body here evrer see a #1 in the .257 weatherby. I don't know of ruger ever making such a rifle but a custom job must be out there someplace.
I am thinking of building one with a 28 inch tube.

I've thought about that very project because:

1. Higher velocity with the longer tube
2. Longer tube dosn't result in a ridiculous overall length
3. Get a reasonably heavy barrel without being unreasonably heavy.
4. Possibly the best long-range round ever for medium thin-skinned game.

I think it'd be an awesome Coues or antelope rig.

Gary Reeder would be the guy to make it happen.

The owner of the gunshop I worked in way back when, bought a Ruger #3. He had it rebarreled with a 26" barrel and put one of the old Fajen laminated stocks on it....was very accurate and he was a velocity nut, so he worked up some pretty hot loads with 87 gr, bullets. Nice rig.
I often thought of doing one in 264 Win mag. Let us all know if you decide to do it!

In the older precision Shooting magazine from the 90's there were two articles about a #1 barreled by Jarrett with a short throat.

I had the Number One built by Jarrett in .257 WBY. It was an older vintage action in a Bell & Carlson stock, 26" medium weight barrel and Kenny's short throat reamer. It is by far the most accurate No 1 I've owned, and is still going strong after nearly 800 rounds.

I've used three different forend bedding techniques on my No. Ones, that one used a silicone pad between the forend tip and the barrel with zero bedding pressure. With the stable glass stock it worked great, but I've wondered about using a wedge between the hanger and the barrel - that worked great on a .22-250 Stainless Varmint. I doubt I'll ever change the .257 since it shoots so well. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don’t think Ruger ever made a factory rifle in 257 Wby, Ruger never cataloged that round but information on special ordered production runs are a little sketchy.

I’m sure there are a number of custom rifles out there in the world in that cartridge.

I agree with all your premises but would caution on this one. The #1 is not a light rifle, most come in slightly over 9lb in standard 1b form with a scope so longer and heavier will be quite weighty.

I also have thought long about a #1 with longer than standard barrel (I thought one could get to 30" and be at the length of a standard long action with 24" barrel) For me it would have been 6mm06 or 6.5-06.
