Stevens 44 1/2?
How strong is the Stevens 44 1/2?
I just picked up a 44 1/2 for $25 and think I might make it into a .357 / .38 sp. is it strong enough.

If it is indeed a 44 1/2, it's plenty strong enough for a 357 Mag and even more. However the weaker 44 action is very similar in appearance and would NOT be suitable. Some 44 1/2s were made thinner and were called the 044 1/2, they also are strong enough for the 357 but were generally intended for the RF cartridges.

Either way, you have a fine action at a fantastic price! Many fine and super-accurate rifles have been built on these splendid little actions and they are among the best for any of the smaller cartridges up to and including anything on the 30-30 case.
Regards, Joe
