Ruger #1 Going from 06 to 35W
Decided to make the move! My 06 Ruger #1 is going to get re-barreled to a 35 Whelen!
Instead of having my smith dump it in the blueing tank I'm thinking of having my friend Cerakote the whole thing!! Maybe a satin brown.

Bill/OregonCool. Actually, when I saw the .35W I thought you were going really retro to .35 Winchester!

FireCaptainWhy not just keep the 06 and buy a stock Lipseys 35 Whelen in blue or SS?
Have more than a few 06's and this Ruger #1 isn't anything spectacular in the groupings. 2" rifle with a slew of different bullets and charges and grain weights.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have two #1B models in 06 and you're lucky. Neither of mine will do better than 3" with anything. I haven't decide whther to rebarrel or have them rebored to .338-06 and .35 Whelen or try to find one of the Lipsey's guns.

p dog shooterI have thought about doing this also. but then I decided I just shoot 220s if I needed something bigger.
My 06 No.1 is a 1.25 rifle and has killed all kinds of critters.
Just couldn't justfiy the expense for so little gain.

So did I! I think a .35 Winchester on the Ruger No.1 would be really nifty. But, performance-wise there are certainly no flies on the .35 Whelen for anything in North America.
That is why I only buy #1s in the big calibers; 375 and up; that way two inch groups are ok.

BISCUTI bought it from a poster here who was pretty open about it not being a MOA. He was dead honest with the fact it was 99% condition.
My first true custom was a 35 Whelen AI off a Stiller Precision Predator, Hart barrel 1/14, McMillian stock, Jewell trigger. Just fell in love with this cal.
I have many an 06 and love em all, probably my favorite so moving to 35 was not a problem! Not going AI on this one though. One of those is plenty.
In fact, I ordered the barrel this week. Mrs. Hart told me 8-12 weeks...

Which puts me way behind the 8-ball. By the time the barrel ships to my smith he will be way past knee deep in hunting season work!!
I don't mind much, but crazy how long a work in progress can take.
