Browning 1885 45/70
In a recent post I asked for help with a short throated chamber.
Since then I've tried a number of projectiles from 300gn-500gn, using ADI 2205 ADI 2207 but didn't have much improvement till I tried ADI Trail Boss.
I also tried this powder in my Marlin 1895 45/70, @ 50 yds had all 5 shots cutting and the elevation required from 50 to 100 yds is about the same as my previous load, 300 Westcast and 23.5gn/ADI2205.
Anyway back to the Browning, The first thing I noticed was the way the rifle recoiled, it seemed softer, next a look down the barrel confirmed it was very clean (The 3rd patch comes out with very little fouling, which is much better than the previous load)
I decided to crimp the projectiles in front of the crimp groove so they would chamber easily.
Long story short, the 405 Westcast 10gn TrailBoss shot 4 cutting, the 5th was tight to chamber and shot about 1 inch away. Recoil is mild.
